To maintain objectivity, the Discussion Partner is responsible for selecting contributors. In doing so, they should work with the individual being reviewed to identify people who will provide feedback:
Selection tips:
- Include representatives from all areas of the individual’s ministry and include a number from each ‘category’.
- Having more contributors typically yields more helpful insights. We recommend a minimum of 6 contributors if possible;
- At least 2 people who report to the individual
- 2 people to whom the individual reports (trustees, elders, etc.)
- 2 other colleagues or team members
- Optionally: congregation members / volunteers / service users
- Smaller organizations may have fewer contributors available—this is not a problem.
- Consider those who might offer constructive challenge, not just supporters e.g. those people who have a minority viewpoint &/or those name of individual doesn’t ‘gel’ naturally with, using wisdom as to whether their input would be a helpful step towards growth.
- If possible, include a representative range of viewpoints (gender, age, role, working style & personality).
- The Discussion Partner &/or Development Partner can also be contributors if that would be appropriate.
